What Are DDU and DDP?

  • DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid):
The customer pays Duties and Taxes upon receiving their shipment.

  • DDP (Delivered Duty Paid):
The shipper pays Duties and Taxes upfront or collects these fees from customers during checkout.

Note: USPS does not offer DDP service—only DDU.

Pros and Cons of DDU vs. DDP

Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU)

  • Advantages:

    • Lowers upfront shipping costs for the shipper.

    • Duties and Taxes are collected by the customer at delivery.

  • Disadvantages:

    • Slower customs clearance can increase delivery times.

    • Customers often face extra delivery fees collected by carriers, potentially leading to dissatisfaction.

Delivered Duty Paid (DDP)

  • Advantages:

    • Faster customs processing and delivery times.

    • Customers avoid paying extra fees at delivery, improving satisfaction and reducing cart abandonment.

  • Disadvantages:

    • Higher shipping costs for the shipper unless fees are collected during checkout.

    • Requires accurate duties and taxes calculation upfront.
